A couple of weeks ago on 9th December, Alan and I went to Bridport’s Late Night Shopping where the majority of the town’s shops stay open later than usual and there are stalls down along South Street as well as fun fair rides for the children and an appearance from Father Christmas. We headed out into the evening a little after it had begun but were able to see and experience the full effect of everyone out having a good time. We even saw a few friends out enjoying the evening, had a coffee from Soulshine Cafe and bought a few things from some of the local shops for the festivities.
I love seeing the town brimming with people and as it is my first Christmas here in Bridport I was happy to snap a few pics to show everyone how many lovely folks were out and about that day.

Frost’s “XMAS” light display above the shop front windows.
The tree in Bucky Doo among the hub bub of people and stalls…
Looking down South Street at the people and stalls…
The Hot Chestnuts stall and two townies…
People and the fun fair rides in the distance…
What sorts of Christmas traditions do your towns hold? Does Father Christmas usually make an appearance, does the Salvation Army Band come around? I’d love to know what other places do to get into the holiday spirit!

As my hubby tends to the BBQ to get supper on the go I thought I’d tell you all about my adventures in foraging for blackberries this afternoon. Alan and I had already picked a few in a lane between the field not far from us and Victoria Grove but were told there were loads more to be had down the Pymore Road so this afternoon I embarked on a journey through the field onto said road to find blackberries a plenty which now soak in a bowl ready to be used in a cake or pie of sorts this week!
The scenery around that area is spectacularly beautiful. Before I entered the Pymore Road I headed for the field behind Victoria Grove…
Crossing the bridge over this river into the field is such a solemn affair, nature performs to our hearts’ delight! As I walked down the path butterflies danced about back and forth from flower to flower looking so very elegant. The path to where the blackberries are leads us past some houses and a small industrial area.
Just in the lane above, a bit further down I encountered the first blackberry bush and then another a bit further along.
Aren’t they beauties? And the beautiful scenery makes it even more worthwhile! Further down along the Pymore Road I encountered this breath-taking landscape and beautiful walking path…
I was in blackberry and countryside heaven today and all just a few minutes walk from our bungalow. We are truly blessed to live in such a gorgeous land. Well, off to help hubby cook now and listen to the beautiful sounds of our neighbour playing his cello in his garden with the occasional noise of a combine harvester rolling by. Have a beautiful day Briddies!

A little while ago I decided to start a new project based on photos of Bridport. To me, it is all new and to those who walk these streets day in and day out it is probably nothing special but attention to detail has always been something that rather fascinated me and a knack for capturing that detail is what makes me who I am. I love to explore, to see the otherwise unseen and the potential beauty even in the most mundane of things. Someday I shall have a gallery of photographs of the place I have come to love and hope to soon call home but for now I share them with you here. Enjoy!
I hope you have enjoyed my mini perspective tour of sections of Bridport. Each set of black and white photo has its corresponding colour version and were all taken in Bridport in and around the following locations: St. Michael’s Lane, Rope Walks, The Tanyard, Borough Gardens, Gundry Lane and South Street.
All photos were taken with my iPhone 5s using the VSCO camera app.

Anyone who has an Instagram account may have seen the Fat Mum Slim photography challenges and I have participated in a couple and am once again participating no Facebook as my Instagram is hard to access at present. I thought I would do the month of May on here as well and post the photos daily. Day 1 was ‘Begins with J’ and Day 2 (today) is ‘Snack’. Here are my photos for the two days…
Begins with ‘J’…

A shot taken from my usual route to work, just off of St Swithuns Road, in Bridport, (West Dorset). It was a hot July day when I took this, and the sunlight was sufficiently intense to pierce the murkier depths of the River Brit (one of Bridport’s three main rivers) at this point, creating the almost milky shafts of light seen here – and although I’ve walked over this stone bridge many times, I’d rarely seen it looking quite so idyllic as this! 🙂
